The system speeds up the decision-making process and improves patient\nsafety by supporting physicians and nurses through patient-specific\nrecommendations and entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn order for\nfamily physicians and their teams to perform their work as well as possible,\nthe information system must be quick, user-friendly and it must support the\nclinical decision-making process. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebmeds.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Duodecim\u2019s decision support\nEBMEDS<\/a> provides\nphysicians with patient-specific recommendations and entries that bring\ntogether the latest medical knowledge and the patient\u2019s health record,\u201d says\nthe Minister of Social Affairs of Estonia, <strong>Tanel Kiik<\/strong>. \u201cThe decision\nsupport system saves the time of physicians and supports the utilisation of\nexisting health data. Implementing a solution like this is an important\nmilestone on our path to patient-oriented healthcare.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Applying\ngenetic information in health risk assessment and treatment is the future<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision\nsupport system will be adopted throughout Estonia, and it will include the\nhealth data of all Estonian citizens. Thanks to the system, it will also be\npossible to apply genetic information in treatment and the assessment of health\nrisks in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe clinical\ndecision support system is the first solution implemented in Estonia that is\nused to store and analyse information about people\u2019s health, including\ndiagnoses, medications, test results and treatment regimens in the past five\nyears. In future, genetic risk scores and other indicators of people\u2019s\nlifestyles will be added to the system. The decision support system is based on\nthe treatment &nbsp;guidelines of both Estonia\nand the international community,\u201d explains <strong>Karin K\u00f5nd<\/strong>, who is in charge\nof the Estonian Health Insurance Fund\u2019s decision support system project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Supports\nmaking evidence-based clinical decisions and prevents medical errors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision\nsupport system was developed in close collaboration with family physicians.\nAccording to doctor <strong>Reet Laidoja<\/strong>, President of the Family Physicians\u2019\nAssociation of Estonia, the decision support systems allows physicians to focus\nmore on communicating with their patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe system\nprovides physicians with evidence-based treatment recommendations according to\nthe patient\u2019s health data. Quick access to health data is particularly\nimportant in the case of patients with several chronic diseases and medications\nand when the interactions of these medications must be taken into account. This\nsolution helps us make better, evidence-based decisions and prevents medical\nerrors,\u201d says Laidoja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EBMEDS 2.0 \u2013\nNext-generation health data analysis solution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEstonia is our\nfirst customer that has started to use the new cloud-based EBMEDS 2.0 platform\nof the decision support system. From the integration, we have gained valuable\nexperience in the implementation of a new platform, which will benefit us when\nFinnish customers begin to use the new platform as well,\u201d says <strong>Peter Nyberg<\/strong>,\nDuodecim\u2019s Senior Medical Advisor and a decision support system expert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe cloud-based\nservice is a next-generation solution for analysing health data. It includes\nmore than 45,000 medical reports and over 7,000 evidence-based documents that\nsupport clinical work,\u201d says <strong>Siim Nahkur<\/strong>, Managing Partner at Celsius\nData and Duodecim Publishing Company Ltd\u2019s representative in Estonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision\nsupport system integrated into the desktops of family physicians is\ncomplemented by the online portal of Celsius Synbase, which includes access to\n16 databases required in clinical work.
