A decision support system can cater to many needs

“EBMEDS, the decision support solution developed by Duodecim Medical Publications ltd. is in a league of its own internationally in terms of versatility. It can be used to assess the risk of falling ill and consider treatment options at the level of the individual, even taking into account the patient’s own experiences and motivation. The same solution can be used to produce tools for citizens for assessing their own health and symptoms and for professionals to enable them to provide effective treatment in accordance with clinical practice guidelines. EBMEDS also offers a population-level prioritisation tool for buyers of healthcare services that can be used to make decisions based on data and effectiveness.

I have followed the progress of the decision support system developed by Kustannus Oy Duodecim from up close for ten years. I would like to congratulate the EBMEDS team who have painstakingly developed a modern software solution based on openness and modularity that enables flexible, cross-platform use. Now that the tools exist, solutions are needed to seamlessly add them to healthcare services processes so that we can make use of them,” says physician Madis Tiik, who has followed the development of data utilisation in healthcare at Sitra.

Madis Tiik, MD, PhD, worked as a physician expert at Sitra on projects aimed at developing the utilisation of data in healthcare in 2012–2018. He currently works as a consultant and a family physician in Estonia.
